An Alabama Crimson Tide legend is going to be on the sidelines at John Carroll High School in Birmingham this season.

According to a story from CBS 42 News, former superstar running back Trent Richardson — who has spent time coaching backs at both Ramsey and Hoover High School — is now joining the staff at John Carroll and bringing his expertise to a program looking to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2023.

“I’m giving back,” Richardson said. “Some of the same energy that my high school coach gave me. I’m just happy to be here and happy to do it.”

Richardson, who was sporting the iconic Nick Saban straw hat, joins the Cavaliers for a reason and already loves what he has experienced since his arrival.

“They’re a family,” Richardson said of why he is coming to John Carroll. “The environment around here, it gives you more hope than anything and it makes you believe. You want these kids to believe and be prepared. ”

Originally from Florida, Richardson came to Alabama and had one of the most decorated careers for a running back in Alabama history, helping the Tide win national titles in 2009 and 2011. Richardson was also named SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 to finish third in Heisman voting.

Closing out his Alabama career with over 3,000 yards and 35 touchdowns, Richardson now brings that toughness and grit to a program where he hopes to be of major assistance.
