Tide star on playing for DeBoer: ‘Words cannot explain how grateful I am’

The Alabama Crimson Tide is moving on from their shocking defeat to Vanderbilt and ready to give it their all against South Carolina on Saturday afternoon back at home in Tuscaloosa.

While fans are still getting to know Alabama’s new head coach in Kalen DeBoer and seeing how he reacts to both success and failure, one player that knows him very well is Tide star wide receiver Germie Bernard.

Bernard transferred to Alabama from Washington, following his head coach from the Pacific Northwest all the way to the deep south. Few know DeBoer better than Bernard, and on this week’s ‘Hey Coach’, Bernard was sure to let everyone know how grateful he is to be playing for him:

“Man, words cannot explain how grateful I am for him and how much he loves his players and how much he pours into us,” Bernard told Chris Stewart. “I think the biggest thing about Coach DeBoer is that he always has his players’ back, and I’ll always commend him for that.”

On the field, Bernard is on pace for a career season as Alabama’s second leading receiver thus far with 16 catches for 220 yards and a touchdown. It’s safe to say he’s happy with the decision he made to continue to play for DeBoer.
