Week three in Oxford, Mississippi was always going to be one of the wildest college football environments fans have ever seen, with the LSU Tigers coming to town and head coach Lane Kiffin making his not-so-grand return.

As it turns out, the state of Alabama is going to be lending a helping hand.

Both Mobile and New Orleans are going to be sending some of its mounted units to Oxford from Thursday through Saturday to work with local law enforcement and ensure things do not get out of hand.

Oxford is building up its police presence for Lane Kiffin's return to Ole Miss.

The city's near 150-person staff will welcome additional units from Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans in the form of mounted patrol, an Oxford Police Department spokesperson told FOS.

It’s a regular practice, with Oxford being one of many departments Mobile assists with its mounted unit — and in return, Mobile gets help during Mardi Gras season controlling crowds in the Port City.

“In turn, we utilize Oxford PD and other agencies during large-scale events like Mardi Gras,” Blake Brown, public affairs manager for Mobile’s Department of Public Safety said via Fox 10 in Mobile. “This training is important because it allows other agencies to better prepare their officers for the sights and sounds along parade routes when riding a horse or maneuvering tight routes on a motorcycle.

“The only expense for the Mobile Police Department will be for fuel to and from Oxford this week…We’ve been partnering with the Oxford Police Department for more than 15 years. These partnerships are beneficial and allow our officers to work in other areas, bringing back additional knowledge and skills that could be utilized right here at home.”

The Mobile Police Department will be sending five mounted officers to Oxford this week in an environment that is expected to be so wild, Oxford clearly felt they needed a little bit of help.
