College football season is in full swing around the country, and while folks in the Yellowhammer State are going to be concerned about the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers, week three presents a massive slate of games.

Both in-state powers have huge showdowns themselves with Florida State coming to Tuscaloosa as the Tide seek revenge and the Florida Gators coming to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the biggest Auburn home game in years. Outside of the state though, there’s a tremendous amount of action as well.

Here are three games you need to have your eye on this weekend across the sport:

North Carolina @ Clemson: 11:00 a.m. CST

This is very much an appetizer type game, but there’s reason to tune in with Dabo Swinney and the Tigers favored by just a field goal against Bill Belichick’s lowly Tar Heels. We have not gotten another true look at Clemson since the dismantling at the hands of LSU, and Swinney now finds himself squarely on the hot seat as things with the program have taken a nasty turn over the last couple of years.

A loss to UNC this week would bring that discussion very much into the national spotlight.

Mississippi State @ South Carolina: 3:15 p.m. CST

While this may be an unranked matchup, it’s also between two 2-0 teams who just so happen to have who might be two of the best quarterbacks in the entire country. The Bulldogs head to Columbia as the toast of the town after Kamario Taylor and the offense absolutely dismantled Minnesota last week in a game many picked Mississippi State to lose.

The Gamecocks on the other hand led by LaNorris Sellers have not been tested yet, however an upstart Bulldogs team being manned by a dynamic superstar in Taylor is just the way to get a first real measuring stick. South Carolina is favored by a little over a field goal in a game that could see some real fireworks.

No. 7 LSU @ No. 8 Ole Miss: 6:30 p.m. CST

There’s no questioning what the biggest game of the week which will have the attention of everybody is this week. Lane Kiffin takes his Tigers into the belly of the beast in his not so grand return to Oxford. Fans will create perhaps the most hostile environment we have ever seen in this sport, and things have gotten so outrageous the Oxford Police Department even had to call in some help from Mobile’s mounted unit.

As for the game itself, the margin is razor thin, and it does seem like Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt is likely to play after being shockingly listed as doubtful on Wednesday before getting upgraded to questionable on Thursday. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is as good as anyone in the sport, and he will have to have a big night to overcome a fearsome LSU defense.

The Tigers are favored by a field goal in what could be the game of the year, let alone just the week.
