Four college football games you need to watch this week besides Alabama and Auburn

Another week has arrived on the college football calendar, and with both the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers playing massive rivalry games on the road, they are just two games in what is a very strong slate of games across the board.

Both in the SEC and around the country, there are great games which will have serious implications on the College Football Playoff field. Here are the four you need to have a close eye on this weekend.

No. 4 Ohio State @ No. 5 Indiana: 11:00 a.m. CST

This is probably the biggest home game in the history of the defending national champion Hoosiers history. To this point, they certainly have looked a step behind the team that dominated everyone in its path last year en route to the historic title. Ohio State is favored by a little more than a field goal against Indiana, and it’s a huge test for Curt Cignetti to try to prove they are indeed capable of going back to back.

With a loss to Texas already, the Buckeyes have a whole lot of urgency not to take another defeat, but this will be a huge test.

Florida @ No. 7 Texas: 11:00 a.m. CST

What a difference two weeks can make for the Gators, who looked like a legitimate national title threat before getting absolutely destroyed by both Missouri on the road and South Carolina at home. As for Texas, they are coming off a dreadful rivalry game against an offensively inept Oklahoma team where Arch Manning may have played the worst game of his career.

If the Longhorns are going to get back on track and make the playoff run they were expected to, it starts this week.

No. 13 Missouri @ No. 9 Ole Miss: 2:30 p.m. CST

This is actually one of the best quarterback matchups of the season with Tigers quarterback Austin Simmons — ironically a transfer from Ole Miss — quietly being one of the best in the nation as Missouri has roared back to right near the top of the SEC. This is a massive test on the road against Ole Miss, and with the Rebels favored by less than a touchdown, it should be a tremendous game in Oxford between two teams who are trying to remind the rest of the conference that they are contenders as well.

No. 2 Notre Dame @ No. 8 BYU: 6:30 p.m. CST

The second matchup of top-10 teams on this list, the Cougars are hosting what also may be their biggest home game in history. Given the fact the Irish have a very soft schedule outside of this game and a later matchup with Miami, this is a huge chance for them to not only prove their ranking, but also potentially come close to just about locking up a spot in the College Football Playoff field.

Many feel this is the best team Notre Dame has had in decades, but they are going to have to prove it in their first real test of this season.
