Sweet Grown Alabama Day: Support local farmers

Sweet Grown Alabama is a beloved non-profit that works to promote Alabama farmers by connecting both consumers and retailers to foods and agricultural products produced within the state.

Saturday is Sweet Grown Alabama Day, dedicated to promoting the amazing work local farmers are doing in our state. Locals are encouraged to celebrate all things locally grown alongside Sweet Grown Alabama on Saturday.

The goal of Sweet Grown Alabama Day is for every participant to do at least one activity that supports an Alabama farmer. This can be as simple as cooking with locally sourced ingredients, buying from a favorite local farmer, picking locally grown flowers, and more. Sweet Grown Alabama encourages those participating to share on their social media (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) and tag Sweet Grown Alabama to be entered to win a gift bag full of Sweet Grown Alabama products.

If you want to participate but will not be in town on Sweet Grown Alabama Day, don’t worry. Sweet Grown Alabama has a searchable database that allows consumers to easily connect with local farmers in their area and find the specific Alabama-grown products they are shopping for. Simply input your zip code to find local products nearest you. Click here to use the database and be sure to bookmark the page for future shopping.

Supporting your local farmers by shopping locally is vital to the Alabama economy. Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson says it best, “When you buy products grown in Alabama, not only do you receive the best products around but you also support our state’s economy. Participating in Sweet Grown Alabama Day is a simple, fun way to show our support for the hardworking men and women who grow our food and other agricultural products.”

One of the easiest ways to participate in Sweet Grown Alabama Day is by visiting and supporting a local farmers market. There will be a number of farmers markets throughout Alabama that will be offering events in honor of Sweet Grown Alabama Day that will give attendees the opportunities to speak with farmers, support the local economy, and have an amazing time with friends and family.
