Rep. Jerry Carl: House Republicans’ 2023 wrapup

I’ve written before about how House Republicans have hit the ground running, fulfilling our Commitment to America – this includes building an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable to the American people.

I’m proud to report we have continued delivering on this commitment, and we have no plans of slowing down because there is so much to do.

During our first year in the 118th Congress, House Republicans have reopened the Capitol to the American people, defended our nation’s energy security, protected the sanctity of life, defunded Biden’s proposed IRS army, worked to stop the Chinese Communist Party’s influence, and held the Biden administration accountable.

We passed bills like the Lower Energy Costs Act, which helps unleash American energy and brings down costs for families. The Secure the Border Act of 2023 is now the strongest border security bill ever, making our borders more secure and tackling illegal immigration. The Parents Bill of Rights Act ensures that parents have a say in their child’s education by putting legal protections in place.

We also approved government funding bills that cut down on wasteful spending, saved money for taxpayers, while keeping our government open. The National Defense Authorization Act supports our military and helps counter threats from countries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. We ended the COVID-19 National Emergency Declaration, giving back our constitutional rights and reopening public spaces.

Lastly, we’ve been keeping a close eye on President Biden’s actions, including looking into potential corruption. These accomplishments show what we can do when we work together for the American people.

We’ve also had Biden administration officials testify 832 times before Congress. I’ve had the opportunity to directly question numerous Biden officials, including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

By holding their feet to the fire, we are doing our part to ensure the government is working for you and our unelected officials are being held accountable for things they do as well as things they don’t do.

Millions of Americans made it clear last November they did not like the direction the country was headed. We listened to your concerns and have been hard at work this past year delivering real results for you. I am excited to see what we continue to accomplish in 2024 working for the American people.
