Politico Names Martha Roby "Most Underrated" In Freshman Class

Politico this past week released their every-other-year-list of “Freshman Class Superlatives,” the best and worst of Congress’s newest members. Politico called this most recent class “the most powerful freshman class in several decades,” and they seem to be noticing what people in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District have known for a while now: Martha Roby is quietly doing an outstanding job.

Here’s what Politico had to say:

Most underrated:
Martha Roby — The 35-year-old freshman lawmaker from Alabama is an incredibly passionate and articulate voice for the party when she chooses to be in the spotlight — which isn’t often, perhaps in part because she’s a conservative who eked out a victory against Democrat Bobby Bright in one of the most hotly contested races of 2010. If she’s able to win reelection, she could be a leader of her party.

Also of note, Politico named South Carolina Congressman Tim Scott “Most likely to be a vice presidential candidate/become governor or senator/leave it all behind to become a motivational speaker.”

They went on to say, “Scott’s often coy about what he wants to do: run for governor? Senate? Quit politics and become a motivational speaker? But the freshman lawmaker isn’t lacking in ambition, as evidenced by his early election to Republican leadership and his presidential town hall series, which have made him a player in the state’s primary political game. Whatever he decides, those following his career arc won’t be surprised.”

Congressman Scott visited Alabama earlier this year, spoke highly of the Alabama Congressional Delegation, and voiced support for the excellent job the Alabama legislature did in their historic 2010 session.
