Longtime SEC assistant and former Florida and South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp has made some headlines in a press conference for his new gig as the Texas Longhorns defensive coordinator.

As teams wrap up their spring camps, new hires are getting a better idea of how things are run with their new programs, and Muschamp — who has worked as an assistant at Auburn and LSU under Nick Saban as well as notably Georgia under Kirby Smart for the last five years — has already seen enough to determine the Longhorns run things differently.

During a press conference, Muschamp strongly suggested that other programs do not require their athletes to attend class, emphasizing that’s not the case at Texas.

“In our society right now, sometimes it’s easy to spot [players who don’t want to work hard and be coached], and we gotta make sure we stay away from those guys who don’t want to get developed and coached the right way,” Muschamp began. “They need to have good tape, they need to have a good transcript. Actually, our players go to school here at Texas. We actually go to class. Not like some other places.”

Of course, Muschamp did not say who he was referring to and between Georgia, Florida and others, it’s anyone’s guess, but it’s safe to say one of the most traveled coaches in the SEC is never afraid to make a headline.
