Nation’s oldest and largest pro-life organization endorses DeMarco

The National Right to Life Committee, the nation’s oldest and largest pro-life organization, announced today that they have thrown their support behind State Rep. Paul DeMarco (R-Homewood) in his bid to become central Alabama’s next congressman.

The 6th Congressional District race has experienced a bit of a lull since DeMarco and former conservative think tank president Gary Palmer outlasted a 7-person field to make it into the runoff. A handful of endorsements have been about the only news recently as the candidates have worked behind the scenes to replenish their campaign coffers and to line up support from outside groups.

The National Right to Life Committee’s decision to back DeMarco is particularly interesting considering Palmer’s aggressive courting of “values voters” in the primary. Perhaps most notably, he received the endorsement of influential Christian radio host Rick Burgess.

But in this particular instance, DeMarco had the advantage of having a voting record on pro-life issues in the state legislature.

The National Right to Life Committee voiced their support for DeMarco’s “commitment to strengthening a culture of life throughout the nation and in the U.S. Congress.”

“I am pro-life. I support a pro-life agenda and am proud to be endorsed by a group doing so much to promote the culture of life,” DeMarco said.

The runoff is set to take place July 15th.
