National Association of Manufacturers CEO Addresses BCA Crowd

I attended the annual meeting of the Business Council of Alabama today at the Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham. I enjoyed hearing Jay Timmons, President and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers, give an excellent speech covering the challenges facing American manufacturers, including the so-called “fiscal cliff,” high corporate taxe rates and over-regulation.

The BCA also elected new officers to lead the organization in 2013. Carl Jamison was unanimously elected as the 2013 chairman. Jamison is a shareholder at JamisonMoneyFarmer, PC, a Tuscaloosa accounting, auditing, tax and consulting firm.

“Carl is the right man to lead this organization because he understands the importance of the private sector in growing and sustaining Alabama’s economy,” said BCA president and CEO Billy Canary. “His commitment to education will also serve us well as we continue to forge a permanent business and education alliance in Alabama to ensure that Alabama is a leader in education reform.”

In addition to Jamison, the following individuals were elected as officers of the BCA:

First Vice Chairman:
Fred McCallum – President, AT&T Alabama – Birmingham

Second Vice Chairman:
Martin Abroms – President, Abroms and Associates – Florence

Immediate Past Chairman:
Terry Kellogg – President and CEO, BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama – Birmingham

Treasurer:
Charles Nailen – President, BBG Specialty Foods – Dothan

Secretary:
Philip Dotts – Managing Director, Public Financial Management, Inc. – Huntsville

Legal Counsel:
Fournier J. “Boots” Gale – Senior Vice President/General Counsel, Regions Financial Corp. – Birmingham
