The Montgomery County Board of Education has announced the names of three finalists competing to become the next superintendent for Montgomery Public Schools (MPS).
The three candidates advancing to the next stage of interviews are:
- Dr. Constance Evelyn – Former Superintendent of Valley Stream 13 School District in New York.
- Dr. Harold Wright – Deputy Superintendent of Achievement and Leadership at Fort Worth Independent School District in Texas.
- Dr. Zickeyous Byrd – Former Superintendent of Selma City Public Schools in Alabama.
The finalists were selected from a pool of six candidates after public interviews were held earlier in the week.
The next round of public interviews for the three remaining candidates is scheduled for March 10 at 1 p.m. at 632 South Union Street. Afterward, the school board will narrow the list to two finalists. The top contenders will visit Montgomery on March 24 and 25 to participate in community engagement sessions hosted by the Alabama Education Association.
The final decision on who will be Montgomery Public Schools’ next superintendent is expected to be made between March 26 and April 8.
Currently, Jamie Wilson is serving as the interim superintendent after stepping into the role following Dr. Melvin Brown’s resignation last fall.
