Mark Sears and Johni Broome each named AP First Team All-Americans

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers have become two of the best basketball programs in the entire country led by two of the most successful coaches in all of college sports, Nate Oats and Bruce Pearl.

However, Oats and Pearl would be the first to tell you that they couldn’t accomplish what they have at their respective schools without the right pieces in place, including Alabama guard Mark Sears and Auburn big man Johni Broome.

On Tuesday morning, the pair’s dominance on the court was recognized after they were selected to be a part of the AP All-American first team.

Broome made a case for the National Player of the Year, averaging a double-double with 18.9 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game along with more than three assists as well. Battling through numerous injuries to help the Tigers to an SEC regular season title, Broome was absolutely sensational.

Not to be outdone Sears, joined former Alabama star Brandon Miller as the only two players in program history to be named to the first team by the Associated Press. Sears averaged 18.3 points per game with nearly five assists along with three rebounds and has Alabama sitting with a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament as he looks to finish off his career with another Final Four run.

Sears received second-team honors last season with Broome being selected for the third team.
