Both Lovelady Thrift Store locations remain open after two 18-wheeler storage trailers full of donated inventory were set on fire at their Clay location this morning.
Neither thrift store sustained damage and no injuries were reported, however, the fire resulted in a major loss of donated clothing, furniture and household goods that support The Lovelady Center’s ministry to women and children across Alabama.
Even after the loss, the center said the community response has already been overwhelming.
“We are safe. We are open. And we are grateful,” said Melinda MeGahee, Executive Director of The Lovelady Center. “Even in unfortunate moments like this, we are reminded how blessed we are to have such an amazing community standing beside us.”
The Lovelady Center is asking for continued donations as both stores remain operational.
All donations directly benefit the more than 950 women and children in our care daily through the programs and services of The Lovelady Center, including recovery services, housing, education, childcare, and job readiness support.
The organization thanked supporters statewide for what it described as an outpouring of prayers, encouragement and support following Wednesday’s fire.
