U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) condemned many of her colleagues on the other side of the aisle for not supporting the continuing conflict against the terrorist regime in Iran.
President Donald Trump ordered new military strikes against the Iranian regime this week after a drone fired by Tehran hit a U.S. Apache helicopter.
Many Democrats have criticized the ongoing effort, calling on the President to end the war immediately.
Britt discussed the latest Wednesday on Newsmax TV’s “National Report.”
“We absolutely have to stand strong, stand beside President Trump, and finish this,” Britt said. “And let me say this: it is despicable that we have Democratic colleagues that are actually cheering for Iran, and also saying, ‘Oh, we hope this doesn’t go well.’ That is absurd. We should stand together, united as Americans, against a force of evil, an actual evil in Iran, and look and stand with the Iranian people who need to be free from this regime.”
The senator was asked if she would support more funding for the war if requested by Trump.
“Here’s the deal, you have to invest to be able to do that,” she answered. “We want to make sure that our military is the best trained, equipped, and ready across the planet. We have shown that when we did that under President Trump’s leadership, you look at what we’ve been able to accomplish, you look at the operations that have already been successful, and so we want to see this one end in that way as well.”
“So I think we take a look at what the president needs from us,” she added, “and it would be my hope that we can come together, not play politics, not Democrat or Republican, but be Americans united behind our men and women in uniform, leaving them blind on the battlefield, leaving them without the resources they need, would be absolutely despicable. And I am hopeful that we can find a pathway forward.”
Despite the recent setbacks in negotiations with the Iranian regime, Trump has said he expects a strong deal to be made soon to make sure the Middle Eastern country never has nuclear weapons.
“Look, President Trump means business, and I hope the Iranians are paying attention, because I have no doubt that he will follow through,” Britt said. “Look, President Trump is the first president to have the courage to actually hold the Iranian regime accountable. This has been going on for 47 years, and for 47 years, people have been dragging their feet….So, if I were them, I would pay attention, because he means what he says, and I believe that he will follow through, and Americans will ultimately be safer and more secure as a result.”
