Katie Britt praises the Trump administration for stopping criminals during Operation Southern Star

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) lauded the recent efforts of the Trump administration for helping fight against crime in the Yellowhammer State.

FBI Director Kash Patel testified in front of the Senate Tuesday, and discussed Operation Southern Star, which targeted violent crime in the Montgomery area.

“The operation Southern Star was so successful. I think within two weeks, you made 63 arrests, 52 guns, 40 drug seizures. There was real accountability,” Britt said to Patel during the hearing. “Since then, I’ve continued to be impressed.”

The operation was a short-term “VIPER” (Violence Intervention, Proactive Enforcement, and Response) initiative run by the FBI Mobile Field Office with state and local partners.

“Your partnership with the city of Tuscaloosa and the work there also proved to have excellent results,” Britt continued. “I think it was about a month ago. You did a month-long operation, had 90 arrests, including 48 felony arrests. There were 10 firearms seized, and in that there were two two high-profile arrests. One of which was somebody that had committed sexual abuse against a child younger than 12, and also a wanted robbery suspect. So, thank you for the work that you’re doing there.”

Participating agencies included the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Alabama state agencies, and Montgomery police and sheriff’s offices

Britt also said the Trump administration has been doing a great job on a national level, not only when it comes to combatting crime, but keeping Americans safe from threats of terrorism.

“The 2026 World Cup was an incredible success,” she said. “Now, we need to build on what we learned and ensure law enforcement has the tools and resources needed to keep Americans safe at major events from college football on Saturdays to the 2028 LA Olympics.”
