It was Saraland native Delvon Gulley who came away with the game-clinching interception in overtime, but it took a long touchdown drive and two-point conversion well before that to make that happen.
Trailing by two scores early in the game and by eight points with just over a minute remaining, the Blazers drove 93 yards in 62 seconds to tie the game up and send it to overtime where they were able to ultimately take care of business.
“It wasn’t pretty early. It was hard,” head coach Alex Mortensen said after the huge win. “But just the character of this team to keep fighting, not get rattled — nobody blinked and we just kept fighting back, both sides of the ball. What a great team win.”

Quarterback Ryder Burton was sensational, finishing with 262 yards through the air and two touchdown passes. He also ran it on the game-tying two-point conversion in the game’s final seconds before finishing it off in overtime.

The victory moves UAB to 4-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in American Conference play. It also improves the Blazers to 4-0 at home this season. They now have a much deserved bye week before hitting the road for a Halloween matchup against South Florida.
