Former University of Alabama star quarterback Jalen Hurts on Friday was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 53rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which is being conducted remotely due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Hurts, who played his final college season at the University of Oklahoma as a graduate transfer, said he is “ready to go to work” after being taken in the second round of the draft.
“I’m an Eagle and it’s a blessing,” Hurts remarked. “I’m just looking forward to being a part of the organization and meeting the guys.”
In a tweet, Hurts shared the moment he and his family got to hear his name called.

“God Is Always In Control. Just Never Lose Faith!” Hurts wrote, adding “John 13:7!”
Many Tide fans will realize the tweet has added significance, as he also shared a tweet from September 2018 when he had originally shared that same Bible verse along with saying, “Jesus replied, ‘You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.’ … Just let God work his magic.”
This was shortly after Hurts had lost the starting QB job at Alabama, but Hurts remained in Tuscaloosa the rest of the season, being a leader the entire time. He would famously lead the Tide to victory in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia that year after Tua Tagovailoa went down with an injury.
Now, Hurts’ patience and faith have seemingly payed off once again, as the quarterback is headed to the NFL and fulfilling his lifelong dream.
