U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) called into “The Dale Jackson Show” on Monday to recap UFC Freedom 250, the mixed martial arts card held Sunday night on the White House South Lawn.

“It was epic,” Britt told Jackson. “I have never been to a UFC fight, but the moment was just incredible. It started with the flyover during the national anthem. It gave everyone chills. You saw all of our servicemen and women, the different branches, filling up the stadium. People thought the White House was going to be far in the background, but you could literally reach out and touch it.”

UFC Freedom 250 marked the first mixed martial arts event ever held at the White House, part of a summer of programming tied to the 250th anniversary of American independence and President Trump’s 80th birthday. The card featured 14 fighters across seven bouts inside a 92-foot Octagon structure dubbed “The Claw,” with the Navy Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds performing a flyover during the national anthem.

Justin Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria in the main event to claim the undisputed lightweight title.

Britt said she sat near several other Republican lawmakers for the fights, including U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX).

“The last fight, the one where Justin, obviously the underdog, the American against the Spaniard, I told Wesley I don’t care what anyone says, he’s going to push through,” Britt said. “By the second round I thought, is he going to make it? Then he came back in the third and fourth round. I have no idea how the other guy was even standing up.”

Britt’s husband, former Alabama and NFL offensive lineman Wesley Britt, also briefly joined the call.

“It was gladiators on the South Lawn of the White House,” Wesley Britt said. “It was awesome.”

Britt closed by tying the night to the broader celebration. “Let’s all celebrate our incredible country and come together. It was just remarkable.”
