Several of Alabama’s Republican political leaders are lauding the recent decision by the Party to confirm U.S. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) as the GOP nominee for Governor.

The ALGOP candidate committee unanimously dismissed the residency challenge against Tuberville on Sunday. Primary opponent Ken McFeeters filed the challenge alleging Tuberville does not meet the Alabama Constitution’s requirement that gubernatorial candidates maintain seven years of continuous residency. Tuberville won the Republican primary in May with roughly 85% of the vote.

The committee cited proof they deemed “conclusive” that Tuberville is a resident of the Yellowhammer State.

The evidence included Alabama tax returns filed annually since 2018, an Auburn home purchase in October 2018, an Alabama driver’s license and voter registration obtained in March 2019, and voting records from the 2020, 2022, and 2024 elections.

“Now that this residency witch-hunt is behind us, it’s time for Doug Jones to come out of his hole and start talking about the issues,” Tuberville said after the decision. “In 2020, I ran against a liberal Doug Jones, but he has since fallen deep into the socialist, Marxist mind virus taking over half of our country. I look forward to beating Doug Jones (again) and being elected as Alabama’s next Governor.”

Other officials reacted to the decision, including Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth who seemed to agree with Tuberville on the issue.

“The ALGOP reaffirmed today what we all already knew – Coach Tuberville is an Alabamian to his core,” Ainsworth said. “Anyone who argues otherwise is rooting for Doug Jones and the liberal Democrats who want to turn Alabama into a Socialist state like California. Let’s elect Coach in November!”

Speaker of the Alabama House Nathaniel Ledbetter said he was glad Tuberville was approved and complimented the committee for their work.

“Glad this nonsense is over with – @CoachForGov is an Alabamian through and through. Thank you to the @ALGOP candidate committee for handling this quickly and transparently,” Ledbetter said on X. “I’m excited to work with our state’s next great governor. Big things are ahead!”

Former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Birmingham), Tuberville’s Democratic opponent in the governor’s race, still took the opportunity to get in a sarcastic dig at the senator over the decision.”

“Wow “Coach!” Never expected you would actually want to debate,” Jones said. “I’ll send you the GPS pin so you can make it up from Santa Rosa Beach.”
