Gold ready to return ‘Lord willing and creek don’t rise’

You could say that Eli Gold is anticipating his return to the radio booth for the Crimson Tide.

“Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, I am planning to be back in time for the start of the regular season,” Gold recently told WNSP Sports Radio.

“I may show up with a walker, and if that’s the case, big darn deal. There are tons of people who use walkers in this world. If I can get by with a cane, I’ll do that. Whatever it is.”

As of now, Gold is expected to return for the 2023 season, after missing Alabama’s 2022 season. To say Gold’s recent circumstances that side lined him were difficult would be an understatement.

Gold spent 186 days in the hospital and in a nursing home after finding out that he had tested positive for cancer on Christmas Eve. His motor functions also became impaired and eventually he could no longer walk. He reportedly lost 148 ponds during the ordeal.

Gold said that it’s been a long road to recovery but he is near the end of his treatment with just one chemo treatment therapy session remaining.

“It’s not been easy. It’s not been simple, by any stretch,” he said. “But I do have just one more chemotherapy session to go, and the doctors are really pleased, everybody is excited. And if the doctors are pleased, then I’m pleased. I feel wonderful.”
