Gerald Allen Announces Reelection Bid For Alabama State Senate Seat

State Senator Gerald Allen (R-Tuscaloosa) announced his bid for reelection to the Alabama State Senate this morning. District 21, which Allen serves, Alabama Senate District 21 includes parts of Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties.

Touting a strong conservative record, Senator Allen’s announcement noted his focus on prohibiting “the use of foreign law in Alabama state courts and to protect the security of the ballot box with Alabama’s photo ID law to reduce voter fraud.” As he stated in his campaign announcement:

We’ve made a lot of progress in the last few years in cleaning up Montgomery. We’ve reduced the size of government and cut waste from our state budgets, but there is still more we can do to make Alabama’s government more accountable and responsive to the people,” stated Allen. “I’m proud that we have stabilized the Education Trust Fund Budget and enacted pro-business reforms that have helped Alabama get to its lowest unemployment rate since the great recession hit.

He also pointed to his collaboration with the Tuscaloosa delegation in restructuring the county’s sales tax to improve infrastructure and construct highways in Tuscaloosa County.

I’m proud that we have worked at the local level to restructure the taxpayers’ money in order to rebuild Tuscaloosa’s infrastructure. I’m also very pleased that we were able to pass a local constitutional amendment to prohibit occupational taxes in Tuscaloosa County without a vote of the people.

Senator Allen has no shortage of endorsements from business and political leaders in his district. Tuscallosa businessman and commercial insurance agent, Geoff Plott, extolled Senator Allen’s achievements noting, “Senator Allen has consistently advocated pro-business policies. He understands that it is the private sector, not the government, that grows our economy.”

Republican Women of Tuscaloosa County Vice President, Jackie Ray, added, “Gerald Allen has been a steady conservative voice for the people of District 21. He’s a common-sense leader who doesn’t get caught up in all the political correctness. I’m glad to know that Gerald will continue to offer himself for public service.”

Eddie Fulmer, president of a Second Amendment advocacy group, Bama Carry, said “There has been no bigger champion of the Second Amendment in Alabama than Gerald Allen. [He] has been endorsed by the NRA and has always pushed to protect our constitutional rights.”

Senator Allen was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, graduated from Holt High School and the University of Alabama. He and his wife Sheila Bailey Allen of Taylorville. They’ve been married 45 years and have three adult children—Wes, Kellie, and Jill and have been blessed with five grandchildren: Davis, DeeAna, McKinley, Ethan, Lucas, and Kathryn. The Allens are active members of Gilgal Baptist Church in Duncanville where Gerald serves as a Deacon.
