A former Alabama Crimson Tide baseball star has received a call up to the Major Leagues.
Jim Jarvis, who played shortstop in Tuscaloosa from 2020-23, was called up by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday and is set to make his big league debut to become the 74th player in Alabama program history to attain Major League status.
Originally drafted in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, Jarvis was traded to Atlanta last year and now gets the chance to make his MLB debut after a very impressive run in Triple-A Gwinnett this season.
Jarvis — who is 25 years old — played in close to 300 minor league games, but he turned things up a notch this season for the Braves and slashed .305/.418/.445 across 153 plate appearances to establish himself as someone Atlanta needed to give a shot to sooner rather than later.
Playing in almost 200 games throughout his Alabama career, Jarvis was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team in 2023 and is top-ten in program history for career double plays turned. He was an offensive force as well with 22 doubles, 10 triples, 10 home runs, 75 RBI, 97 walks and 25 stolen bases throughout his time in Tuscaloosa.
Tide fans who also love the Braves will certainly be tuned in this weekend as a former fan favorite in Jarvis finally gets his first shot at Major League Baseball.
