DeBoer contract details finally revealed

The details of Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer’s contract have been revealed, and the numbers are staggering.

DeBoer received an 8-year deal and will receive $10 million per year, which increases by $250,000 each season.

By the time year 8 rolls around, that $10 million increases to $11.75 million.

The $10 million salary is more than double of what he made in his final season at Washington ($4.2 million).

The deal, which runs through Dec. 31, 2031, is set to pay DeBoer $87 million over the 8-year period, though DeBoer could certainly be extended.

It was reported when DeBoer took the Alabama job that Washington had also offered him a raise that would have paid him more than double what he had been making, but DeBoer wanted to be in Tuscaloosa.

DeBoer’s current $10 million salary ties him for fourth in the nation among the highest paid head coaches:

  1. Dabo Swinney, Clemson: $11 million
  2. Kirby Smart, Georgia: $10.75 million
  3. Texas’ Steve Sarkisian: $10.6 million
  4. DeBoer and Mike Norvell, Florida State: $10 million

Among the bonuses in the deal are a $75,000 bump for making the SEC Championship which increases to $125,000 if Alabama wins.

DeBoer can make up to an additional $875,000 if Alabama were to win the national championship and $150,000 if Alabama just makes the 12-team College Football Playoff.

In terms of non-monetary, perks, DeBoer receives some fascinating add-ons including a cell-phone stipend, a skybox with 15 tickets for home games, a “non-commercial airline airplane” with up to 30 hours of flight time each season for personal use, and a monthly membership to North River Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa.

The contract does however, hilariously specify that DeBoer will have to pay for his own food and drink at the Yacht Club.
