Bremen businessman Dan McWhorter has entered the special election race for Alabama House of Representatives District 12, becoming the latest Republican candidate to qualify for the seat vacated last month by former State Rep. Corey Harbison.
McWhorter, who announced his candidacy on May 19, owns Innovative Analytical Solutions LLC, a company he founded over 11 years ago. He is seeking the Republican nomination in the upcoming special election later this year.
In his announcement, McWhorter outlined a four-point platform focused on economic and legislative reforms.
His proposals include capping Cullman County property taxes for senior citizens aged 65 and older, introducing a clean lottery bill to fund two years of tuition at trade schools, technical schools, or junior colleges for high school graduates with at least a C average, eliminating Daylight Saving Time in Alabama, and removing state taxes on overtime wages.

McWhorter joins three other Republicans who have already qualified for the race:
-
Clint Hollingsworth, a four-term member of the Cullman City Council;
-
Heather Doyle, a small business owner and realtor;
-
Cindy Myrex, a realtor who has emphasized a campaign focus on faith, family, and freedom.
Democrat Matthew Glover has also filed to run in the special election.
The District 12 seat became vacant following Harbison’s resignation on April 15, 2025. Governor Kay Ivey set the dates for the special election shortly afterward. The special primary election is set for Tuesday, July 15, 2025. If necessary, a primary runoff will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, followed by the special general election on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The deadline for candidates representing major political parties to qualify was May 13. Independent and minor party candidates have until July 15 to file.
