Kalen DeBoer probably didn’t fully know what he was getting himself into when he took the job following Nick Saban at Alabama, coming all the way from the University of Washington.
With the roller coaster that the 2024 season has been thus far, DeBoer has seen first hand the highs and lows of a fanbase that has massive and perhaps unrealistic expectations of their program as well as becoming the most famous man in an entire state that is absolutely crazed about college football.
But perhaps the greatest example of just how wild things can be in the SEC was shown on this week’s edition of ‘Hey Coach’ when DeBoer had to debunk rumors that he and his wife Nicole recently had a third child.
Iconic Hey Coach caller known as ‘PeeWee from Grand Bay’ congratulated DeBoer on the rumored addition to the family to daughters Alexis and Avery, and DeBoer quickly let him know that the Facebook rumor was actually not accurate.
“PeeWee, I hate to burst your bubble on that one,” DeBoer said with a smile. “But that’s something that happened with a lot of people, not just me. Rumors are crazy. The only reason why I know is because I got a lot of text messages saying congratulations… You can’t believe any of that stuff.”

Perhaps the DeBoer family could eventually be added to, but for now it sounds like that’s not the case. Alabama’s head coach is fully focused on the Tide’s must-win matchup this weekend against LSU in Baton Rouge on Saturday night.
