The Christian Coalition of Alabama on Sunday recommended former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell in today’s GOP primary runoff for Alabama Attorney General, pointing to his record on the sanctity of life and his pledge to protect Alabama children.

Mitchell, who served as an associate justice from 2019 until stepping down in 2025 to enter the race, faces Katherine Robertson, former general counsel to term-limited Attorney General Steve Marshall, in Tuesday’s runoff.

In announcing the recommendation, the coalition cited Mitchell’s defense of the sanctity of life, his commitment to protecting children, and what it described as his willingness to engage directly and candidly with people of faith across the state.

The group highlighted Mitchell’s 2024 majority opinion holding that unborn children are protected under Alabama’s Wrongful Death of a Minor Act, a ruling it praised as a defense of the sanctity of human life.

It also pointed to his pledge to stand with families against online predators and his commitment to enforcing the law “without fear or favor” as the state’s chief law enforcement officer.

“Jay Mitchell has shown the character, conviction, and courage Alabama needs in its Attorney General,” coalition President Dr. Randy Brinson said. “He has defended the sanctity of life from the bench, and he has been candid and forthright with us at every turn. He is exactly the kind of principled leader Alabama families can trust.”

Mitchell’s campaign claims a broad endorsement slate, including the Business Council of Alabama, Alabama Citizens for Life and the Alabama Realtors PAC, plus more than 30 sheriffs, police chiefs and district attorneys. Among them is Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey, who ran for attorney general herself before backing Mitchell.
