Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh announced Friday that Senator Paul Bussman (R-Cullman) will serve as his designee on the Senate’s influential Rules Committee, which sets the daily agenda for the Senate and determines what legislation will go before the full chamber. According to the Senate’s governing rules, the President Pro Tem is a member of each standing committee and can designate a member to serve on the committee in his place.

Marsh said Bussman will be a valuable addition to the committee, noting his commitment to serving his constituents and implementing policies that will benefit the state of Alabama.

“In just two short years in the Legislature, Senator Bussman has emerged as a leader who’s committed to working hard, tackling tough issues and always striving to best represent the people of his district,” Marsh said in a statement. “He’s been a champion for conservative, responsible solutions that help make Alabama a better place to call home and I’m proud to have him serve as my designee on the Rules Committee.”

Bussman, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate’s Children, Youth Affairs and Human Resources Committee and Vice Chairman of the Health Committee, said he appreciates the confidence Senate leadership has placed in him by tapping him for this post.

“I consider it a tremendous honor to serve as the President Pro Tem’s designee on the Rules Committee and I’ll continue working everyday to best represent the people of Senate District 4 and citizens of Alabama,” Bussman said. “Senator Marsh has set a strong example for reigning in out-of-control government spending and boosting the private-sector economy, and I’m proud to serve on this important committee as we continue working to move Alabama forward.”
