Dale Peterson Arrested for Stealing Beer, Says He "Just Had to Pee"

According to Dale Peterson, in October of last year he was wrongly accused of steeling two cases of beer and as a result was arrested by the Hoover Police Department.

Peterson became internet famous in 2009 when he ran for Alabama Agriculture Commissioner and one of his campaign videos went viral. In the video Peterson warns of “thugs and criminals” who “don’t give a rip about Alabama,” and points out that his opponents were “stealing yard signs in the dead of night.”

In an ironic twist, it’s now Peterson who is being accused of being a criminal.

Peterson appeared on Birmingham, Alabama talk radio program The Matt Murphy Show Thursday morning where he explained that Wal-Mart staff mistakenly thought he was attempting to steal the beer when he actually “just had to pee.” Peterson said he went into the restroom, left his beer outside, and when he reemerged, Hoover police arrested him. “I had no intention of stealing,” he explained. “The only intention I had when I crossed that line was to go pee.” Murphy shot back, “There’s video of this, Dale. You know all of this is going to come out. You don’t have to lie about this today.”

Peterson and Matt Murphy debated each other’s credibility until Murphy asked him to leave, at which point he stormed out, got in his silver Volkswagen Beetle, and sped off.

Matt Murphy’s must-hear interview with Dale Peterson can be heard below. The entire thing is worth a listen, but things really heat up around 14:45.
