Birmingham Stallions saddle up for XFL: Two-time USFL champions join new league

The USFL and XFL are merging in 2024, with four of the teams from the USFL surviving to the new venture and the other four officially folding.

The Birmingham Stallions, who are the 2x defending USFL champions, are among the four teams that will be a part of the new, combined league.

The other three will be the Houston Gamblers, the Memphis Showboats, and the Michigan Panthers. As a result, the franchises that will fold are the New Orleans Breakers, the New Jersey Generals, the Philadelphia Stars, and the Pittsburgh Maulers.

The Stallions defeated the Stars in the USFL Championship in 2022, and the Maulers in 2023, but neither franchise will continue into the new league.

The teams that played in the XFL in the 2023 season were the Arlington Renegades, DC Defenders, Houston Roughnecks, Orlando Guardians, San Antonio Brahmas, Seattle Sea Dragons, St. Louis Battlehawks and Vegas Vipers, but it remains to be seen which of them will survive.

The new league will kick off on March 30th of 2024.
