The Business Council of Alabama (BCA) on Thursday announced that its board of directors has endorsed Mobile County Commissioner Jerry Carl in the Republican primary runoff in Alabama’s First Congressional District.
BCA chairman John Mazyck lauded Carl in a statement as “a job creator with a commitment to supporting economic growth and pro-jobs policies.”
“From his career as a small business owner and entrepreneur to serving as a Mobile County Commissioner, he has exemplified his focus on creating economic opportunities and made room for businesses to grow right here in Alabama,” Mazyck added. “BCA is proud to endorse him in the upcoming primary runoff election.”
Carl is set to face former State Sen. Bill Hightower (R-Mobile) in the July 14 runoff.
Reacting to the BCA endorsement in a statement, Carl commented, “Earning the support of the Business Council of Alabama is an incredible honor. As a small-businessman, I understand that economic growth starts with local businesses. I have been a tireless advocate for the business community as a county commissioner, and I look forward to taking that experience and work ethic with me to Washington.”
“In these uncertain economic times, south Alabama needs a Congressman who knows the ins and outs of running a business. In Congress, I will work with my peers in the business community to bring further economic development to south Alabama, and I will stand with President Trump to get Americans back to work and get our economy roaring again,” he concluded.
This continues an onslaught of endorsements for Carl, including Congressman Bradley Byrne (AL-01) last week announcing his support for Carl.
Byrne chose to run for the U.S. Senate this cycle instead of seeking reelection. While he finished third in the March GOP Senate primary, Byrne carried Alabama’s First Congressional District. This included Byrne garnering 52.68% in Mobile County and 56.31% in Baldwin County.
Hightower last week was endorsed by the Alabama Forestry Association; he is also supported by Club for Growth.
Carl has been endorsed in the runoff by State Rep. Chris Pringle (R-Mobile) and businessman Wes Lambert, the third- and fourth-place finishers, respectively, in the AL-01 March primary. Carl also has the support of the Alabama Farmers Federation and Coastal 150.
