Baldwin County District Attorney Robert Wilters announced his endorsement Tuesday, followed by DeKalb and Cherokee County District Attorney Summer Summerford on Wednesday.

“Having served both as a judge and as a longtime district attorney, I understand the importance of strong leadership in the AG’s Office, and Katherine Robertson has delivered exactly that over the last decade,” Baldwin County District Attorney Robert Wilters said.

“Under her leadership, violent criminals are serving longer sentences, death penalty cases are moving more efficiently through the courts, and Alabama has taken an uncompromising stand against those who exploit children. Just as importantly, Katherine has stood firm against the anti-incarceration movement that wants to dismantle public safety in Alabama one bad policy at a time. I am convinced that she is the right person to serve as our next Attorney General.”

Wilters brings rare credentials to the endorsement. Before taking office as district attorney in 2017, he served 22 years as a circuit court and district court judge in Baldwin County and began his career as a special agent with the FBI.

“I proudly support Katherine Robertson for attorney general,” DeKalb and Cherokee County District Attorney Summer Summerford said. “Katherine has the experience and knowledge to effectively serve our state while standing strong for justice and victims. Alabama needs her leadership and commitment to protecting our communities.”

Summerford took office as district attorney of the Ninth Judicial Circuit in January 2023 and previously served as a deputy district attorney. She clerked in the Violent Crimes Division of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and has been a vocal supporter of Aniah’s Law and the Speedy Trial Act, a measure Robertson helped enact to fast-track prosecutions of violent criminal cases.

Wilters and Summerford join Madison County DA Rob Broussard and Autauga, Elmore, and Chilton County DA CJ Robinson, who previously endorsed Robertson following her strong primary performance.

The Robertson endorsements come a day after Mitchell secured a high-profile prosecutor backing of his own, with former AG candidate and Blount County DA Pamela Casey announcing her support Tuesday.

Robertson led the Republican primary with 40.5% of the vote, carrying 44 of Alabama’s 67 counties including all six of the state’s most populous. She faces former Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell in the June 16 runoff.
