Alabama’s Turkey of the Year: Doug Jones

Every year on my radio show the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I give listeners an opportunity to offer up their “Turkey of the Year,” a person who did something foolish or a series of foolish things that would make them stand out from all the other foolish things we see every year.

This year’s nominees included yours truly for being too negative, President Donald Trump for losing the House, Alabama Democrats for getting destroyed, Roy Moore for refusing to go away, Walt Maddox for running a sorry campaign, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) for constantly being anti-Trump, CNN’s Jim Acosta for his preening press conference behavior, opponents of the Rocket City Trash Panda moniker for fighting an awesome name and many other people who have embarrassed themselves since last Thanksgiving.

However, the one name that kept coming up online and on-air is Alabama’s junior senator, Doug Jones. This should not come as a surprise to many because he was constantly in the news since he was elected last December. The Alabama political press’ non-stop fawning over Jones only further highlights the gap between Jones/his press fanboys and the people of the great state of Alabama.

Just this week, AL.com offered a recounting of Jones’ first year that started with a continuation of their hook that Jones is a world-beating trendsetter and not a fluke.

Excerpt:

It’s been a year since Doug Jones shocked the world to become Alabama’s first Democratic senator in 25 years.

He may have shocked some people, but Doug Jones did not win the election, Roy Moore lost that election. And he surely won’t be winning re-election in 2020, no matter how confident he is.

His decisions and behavior over the last year have sealed his fate and his status as Turkey of the Year.

He continues to take credit for economic development he had nothing to do with:

Mo Brooks: There is no evidence that Doug Jones’ unlikely victory impacted Toyota-Mazda’s decision to come to Alabama

Doug Jones had nothing to do with bringing the Toyota-Mazda plant to Alabama

He spends more time doing Senator Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) bidding than representing the state of Alabama:

Doug Jones just doesn’t get it; he represents Alabama and is not Chuck Schumer’s personal senator

He pretends to be pro-life, even though he is not:

Wait, now Alabama Senator Doug Jones was always ‘adamantly pro-choice’?

His views on immigration are out of step with Alabamians:

‘Moderate’ Doug Jones continues to prove he is just another liberal on immigration

Obviously, his behavior during Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings did not help him:

Yellow stripes, dead armadillos and Alabama’s Doug Jones

Alabama Senator Doug Jones appears to be completely off the SCOTUS battlefield

What will Sen. Doug Jones do on Trump’s Supreme Court pick and does it really matter?

And lastly, remember after the 2018 midterms Doug Jones is a cooked Turkey.
