Alabama governor’s mansion open for tours during the holidays

Per Times Daily, the Alabama governor’s mansion is giving people an opportunity to take a peek inside Governor Ivey’s home by offering holiday candlelight tours on the first three Mondays in December.

Tours, which will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., are free and tickets are available at the gift shop prior to the day’s tours. The gift shop is located at 30 Finley Ave., across the street from the side entrance to the mansion.

Guests can view the Governor’s Mansion holiday decor, enjoy live choir performances and sample Alabama-made goods at the gift shop.

“This is the people’s house and I want to share it with them during this special Christmas season,” Gov. Kay Ivey said.

Rooms open to the public include the main entrance, dining room, sitting room, sun room and more, feature holiday decor by volunteer designers from around Alabama.

The interior design companies that have assisted with the decorating of the governor’s mansion and the neighboring Farly-Hill House, include Southern Posies, Lynne Coker Interiors, Magnolia Pointe Designs, Flowers by Amanda, Katherine Trantham Interior Design, and CCI Premier ReDesign.

Choirs set to perform at the governor’s mansion include the Forest Avenue Choir on December 3, Albertville High School Show Choir and Diane Shultz on December 10, and Prattville First United Methodist Church and the Saint James Choir on December 17.
