Gov. Kay Ivey has officially proclaimed Sept. 4 as College Colors Day in Alabama, encouraging students, alumni and fans across the state to show their school spirit by wearing their favorite university’s colors.

From the classroom to the field, we’re cheering on Alabama higher education!

The proclamation recognizes Alabama’s 14 public colleges and universities and the role they play in education, service and economic opportunity across the state.

Ivey presented the proclamation as part of the annual College Colors Day celebration, which encourages faculty, staff, students, alumni and fans to wear apparel representing their favorite university. This year’s theme is “Universities Turn Dreams into Reality.”

The proclamation points to a history of higher education in Alabama stretching back more than 190 years and says the state’s universities collectively contribute more than $27 billion to Alabama’s economy.

It also recognizes the academic and athletic achievements of Alabama universities, including the educational opportunities and scholarships they provide to thousands of young men and women.

“College Colors Day promotes higher education in Alabama through increased public awareness and the celebration of the tremendous economic, cultural and social impact of the universities in our state,” the proclamation reads.

Ivey encouraged supporters of Alabama’s 14 public colleges and universities to proudly display their school colors Sept. 4 as part of the statewide celebration.
