Alabama Republican Party Chairman Scott Stadthagen is looking forward to what how U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) will help the state if he’s elected the next governor.
Tuberville is currently the GOP Nominee to Alabama Governor who is going up against former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) in the November election.
Stadthagen discussed a possible incoming Tuberville administration Friday on Alabama Public Television’s “Capitol Journal.”
“I think moving into the next quadrennium, it’s going to be fun, man,” Stadthagen said. “I mean, if you know having coach as Governor, we’ve had Kay Ivey, my whole entire political career has been with Governor Ivey, and I haven’t experienced any other governor. So watching him come in, and if he does half the things he says he’s going to do, my goodness, it’s going to be entertaining. Then we got new constitutional seats. It’s it’s just going to be fun. It’s going to be fun to experience just because it’s going to be something different.”
“It’s going to be a new direction for the state.”
Tuberville has run his campaign on cutting taxes, being tough on crime, brining in data centers, and protecting Alabama values.
The chairman said he believes some of those things will be the top priorities for the next Legislative Session.
“So we’re going to support family values across the board,” he explained We’re going to be fiscally responsible. We’re going to be smaller government. We’re going to watch out and be definitely pro-life. I think the state of Alabama set the record straight in 2019 and showed the whole United States where we stand as a as a state for our pro- life stance, which ultimately overturned Roe versus Wade. So those are some of the things that we’re really going to.”
“But now on the table is defending choose, you know, school choice,” he added. “So I think that’s very important. I think that who would have thought that had been the hot topic going into the election cycle? But for the opportunity for a kid to to have the education they deserve and give those parents that opportunity, I can’t believe you could be against that.”
Stadthagen is also hopeful that there will be momentum to pass his bill to close party primaries in the state.
“So ultimately, the parties are supposed to pick their candidates to run for the general election,” he argued. “Think about years years past in the state of Alabama. We picked our candidates through a convention. You know. So I mean, technically, we could do that now if we choose to, as a Republican Party, the primary elections, and I don’t know the confusion how we got to this point in our society, but the primaries are just based for us to pick our our teammates for the general election.”
