Alabama Farmers Federation endorses Republican nominee Barry Moore in AL-02

Republican candidate Barry Moore has been endorsed by the Alabama Farmers Federation in his bid for Congress.

Moore, a former state representative from Enterprise, defeated Dothan businessman Jeff Coleman in a July primary runoff election to be the Republican nominee for Alabama’s Second Congressional District.

“Barry recognizes the contributions agriculture makes to the economy and rural committees. He will be a strong voice for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District in Washington, D.C.,” Federation president Jimmy Parnell said in a Friday statement.

ALFA had previously endorsed Coleman in January, a choice shared at the time by most of the major business groups in the state.

In other prominent Alabama political races, the Federation backed former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville and Mobile County Commissioner Jerry Carl for the U.S. Senate and AL-01 respectively. Both of those candidates won their primaries and carry the ALFA endorsement into the general election.

On the trail during the primary and primary runoff elections Moore frequently referenced his fondness for the agriculture industry and promised to fight for farmers if elected.

Agriculture has an enormous presence in the largely rural AL-02 which encompasses much of the southeast corner of the state as well as the River Region around Montgomery.

“I grew up on a family farm in Coffee County and have a strong appreciation for the job Alabama farmers do every day,” Moore stated in response to receiving the endorsement.

The candidate added that he appreciated “the confidence the Alabama Farmers Federation has placed in me” and looks forward “to working on behalf of their members and everyone in Congressional District 2.”

Moore is a heavy favorite to defeat Democratic nominee Phyllis Harvey-Hall in the staunchly conservative district when the general election occurs on November 3.
