AEA Executive Hypocrite At It Again

The AEA tabloid machine is at it again. This time, AEA Executive Hypocrite, excuse me, Executive Secretary Henry Mabry is taking on Governor Bentley for his support of charter schools.

So, Dr. Mabry, it’s ok to exercise school choice in your own family, with your own kids, but not ok for the working people of Alabama to make sure their kids get the best possible education too? That’s right, Mabry sends his kids to Holy Cross Episcopal School in Montgomery rather than keeping them in public schools. “This is a personal faith issue, that’s all it is,” he told the Gadsden Times when confronted. “He has to live with his decision and whether he can promote public education at the same time,” said AEA President Nancy Worley.

I say, good for you, Dr. Mabry! The Montgomery public schools didn’t provide the education you wanted for your children, so you sent them to a school that worked better for the Mabry family.

But what about the rest of the residents of Montgomery? What about the poor single mother with 4 kids who’s trying to scrape by and finds her family living in a district that’s currently providing substandard education to her kids? What kind of elitist attitude says that it’s ok for the AEA Executive Hypocrite to choose schools but not ok for this hard working single mother?

That scenario is playing out all over the state and it’s time to quit playing politics with the future of our children.

But school choice isn’t the only thing irking Dr. Mabry. “[Bentley] squarely attacked teachers by calling for using student test scores in teacher evaluations,” Mabry says in the email below. Oh, heaven forbid teachers having to show their students are learning something, Dr. Mabry!

I could go on forever but you can read for yourself below. And what’s up with the creepy lady in the masthead of the email anyways?

The governor is at it again! Contact him today!
Dear Teachers, Education Support Professionals, and Education Retirees:

There he goes again. Governor Robert Bentley attacked teachers and education support professionals once again by coming out for charter schools. He squarely attacked teachers by calling for using student test scores in teacher evaluations.

Also, the Governor is considering not fully funding PEEHIP, AGAIN. This is unacceptable; his actions will only mean more pay cuts for you and hurting the education of our young people.

Of late, it has become apparent that every time Governor Bentley says he supports teachers and public education that he comes with a proposal to hurt teachers and public education.

Say enough is enough. I wrote you last week and the week before to contact the governor to voice your displeasure with his actions. Many of you contacted the governor, but he is still not listening.

It is important for you to contact Governor Bentley again BECAUSE HE IS NOT LISTENING TO YOU. TELL HIM TO LISTEN TO YOU.

Tell the governor not to push legislation for the creation of charter schools that will only divert more money from public schools. Tell the governor not to push legislation to require student test scores to be used in teacher evaluations.

Tell the governor to fully fund PEEHIP.

Tell the governor to give you back the $1,200 pay cut he put on you beginning October 1.

Here is his contact information:

CALL: 334-242-7100

EMAIL: Go to Governor Bentley’s web site at http://governor.alabama.gov/contact/contact_form.aspx to send an email.

WRITE: The Honorable Robert Bentley, Governor
State Capitol
600 Dexter Ave.
Montgomery, Alabama 36130

Hopefully, this man YOU put in office will start to listen to YOU.

The governor presents his budget and other proposals in less than two weeks.

Now is the time to tell him what you think, AGAIN.
