Ad criticizes Jones for voting against border wall funding

U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) once again faces criticism over his positions on immigration issues.

Entitled “Border,” a new video ad by One Nation was launched on Tuesday, reminding Alabama voters that Jones opposed funding a wall on the United States-Mexico border and that the senator voted to terminate President Donald Trump’s declaration that an emergency existed at the border.

The 30-second spot opens with a narrator asking, “What about strong borders and tough immigration laws does Senator Jones not understand?”

“Senator Doug Jones voted against $25 billion for a wall on our southern border,” he continues.

The ad then shows a clip of Jones himself saying, “I am not going to give wall money just to give wall money.”

“Jones even voted against declaring an emergency at the Mexican border – trying to stop us from building a wall,” the narrator adds. “Strong borders help keep our communities safe. Tell Senator Doug Jones: border security is national security. Vote to fully fund the wall.”

Watch:

This comes as part of a previously-announced $3.2 million advertising reservation in the Yellowhammer State that was kicked off last month by One Nation, a 501(c)(4) organization with ties to Alabama native and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

One Nation last week released an ad slamming Jones for voting to continue federal funding for sanctuary cities. Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) recently called Jones an “open borders advocate” in endorsing his 2020 general election opponent, Republican senatorial nominee Tommy Tuberville.
