7 Things: Trump to keynote ALGOP event; Ivey signed wrong bill; and more ….

7. The Alabama Department of Archives and History is hosting an LGBTQ event today, paid for with taxpayer dollars and it will take place on state property. And, as usual for the department, it will focus on the negative side of the state that pays them. The program will include a look at “lesser known individuals” who apparently need to be known because of how they liked to have sex.

6. Bud Light has now lost its ability to declare itself America’s best-selling beer after a sustained boycott was launched in response to controversial transgender social media user Dylan Mulvaney being given a single beer can to celebrate that he was now a she for 365 days. Bud Light has refused to apologize and has lost some $20 billion in market value.

5. Congrats to Mobile for no longer being Alabama’s most dangerous city and congrats to Birmingham for not only sliding in to take the crown, according to a study released by MoneyGeek, but for being the No. 2 most dangerous city nationwide. Leaders dispute the results but it is not as if appearing this high up on a list like this is ever going to be explained away.

4. Prolific liar and U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) escaped any consequences for his election interference and lying from 2016 to 2023 because 20 Republicans voted against the resolution. Schiff used his position on the House Intelligence Committee to push the Trump-Russia hoax in Congress and in the media.

3. Just like in the past, white Alabama Democrats are being racist, according to the de facto head of the Alabama Democratic Party. Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC) leader Joe Reed said former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) was part of a  “racist plot” to “weaken the Black vote.”

2. A special session may be needed to fix a mistake caused by a computer glitch in the Legislature. This could be necessary because the law the governor signed is not the law passed by the Legislature. The bill the Legislature passed only covered fentanyl and fentanyl mixtures, the law Gov. Kay Ivey signed is broader with methamphetamines, cocaine, morphine, and heroin included.

1. Despite all his legal woes, former President Donald Trump will be the keynote speaker at the Alabama Republican Party’s summer meeting Aug. 4. ALGOP Chairman John Wahl seems pretty excited, “This is going to be a massive event, and we’re already expecting to sell out of tickets and tables. I encourage anyone interested in attending to buy your tickets early.”
