7 Things: They don’t have the votes for gambling; Russia’s war in Ukraine could end soon (this is not a repeat); and more …

7. Retired Alabama head football coach Nick Saban is really letting his opinions on the current state of college football be known, he doesn’t like it and is promising to spend his retirement making it better. Saban also discussed what another legendary Alabama coach, Bear Bryant, would think, “If Coach Bryant or Coach Bowden could all the sudden be with us tonight, what would they think of college football right now?”

6. As we have now almost entered the third straight presidential election with former President Donald Trump in the mix, we have to get right back into the claims that Trump is a Russian asset, the Russian hoax is back. This weekend, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is blackmailing Trump with “something financial,” and last night on CNN, U.S. Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.) claimed that it appears that “the House Republican majority is being used by Russia to interfere in the 2024 election.”

5. Creepy fans of providing books of questionable appropriateness to minors are preparing to take their lumps as bills that will change the way libraries are run are flying through the super-majority Republican-controlled Alabama Legislature. Oddly enough, groups of degenerates threatening to ban the Bible and “To Kill a Mockingbird” did not change people’s minds, nor did calling people fascists and book burners while suggesting Drag Queen Story Hour and graphic sex depictions were a key part of a child’s library experience are not swaying normal people.

4. For some reason, former U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley held a press conference to let everyone know that she plans to stay in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, even after she gets stomped in her home state of South Carolina. Most were left questioning why this event took place and she even cried because Donald Trump has been mean to her, specifically noting his “attack” on her husband, but said she will reject calls for her to get out of the race.

3. After picking up an endorsement with the House Freedom Caucus yesterday, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) has now picked up the support of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) over his opponent fellow Republican Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile). Cruz offered his support saying, “Barry has proven that he is not afraid to take a stand and make the tough votes. He is undoubtedly the leader Alabama’s First District needs in Congress and I am proud to endorse him today.”

2. The war in Ukraine is now on to its third year but there are some signs that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to ending the war, but he will insist on keeping the land Russia has taken. Putin’s desire to take part of Ukraine was the reason for the war and inevitable. Without new aid for Ukraine, this may be where this war is headed so Democrats might want to revisit some actual border enforcement measures in exchange for more Ukraine support.

1. As Alabama’s Most Trusted Journalist mentioned this weekend, the votes do not exist to push the current incarnation of the comprehensive gambling bill the Alabama State House passed last week. State Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Atmore) said the bill will continue to be discussed but the bill has a super team of opponents including enemies of gambling in general, people who have problems with the process, people who opposed the proposed locations of casinos, protections for existing illegal gambling, and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians all oppose this for various reasons.
