7 Things: School choice bill – $7K for families; new wrinkle to grocery tax fight; and more …

7. 18,000 cows killed in cow manure methane explosion in Texas.

6. The “Wetumpka Cat Ladies” who were arrested for allegedly feeding stray cats (it was actually for trespassing after being told to stop feeding cats) had their cases tossed on appeal when the prosecutor decided to halt proceedings.

5. No more mask mandates for kids in schools if new legislation passes and is signed by Gov. Kay Ivey. It seems like this bill would be much better if it was offered years ago. What if there is an infectious disease the masks work on later?

4. Fourteen illegal gambling facilities in Jefferson County have been shut downagain. The combined forces of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, FBI, DEA, and Hoover PD were involved.

3. Apparently the person leaking top secret documents is a 20-something that works on a military base described as, “a young, charismatic man who loves nature, God, shooting guns and racing cars” and “fit, strong, armed and trained … like something out of a crazy movie.”

2. Voters on the left and right want the grocery tax ended. However, some on the left have decided to add a wrinkle to the conversation by discussing new taxes to replace lost revenue.

1. A school choice bill draws interest in the Legislature and around the state. The bill would allow $6,900 for each child to be directed by the parents for their children. A “parental rights” bill has advanced, as well.
