7 Things: Harris is popular vote favorite now; Alabama’s smartest man begs for gambling to bail out $15.4B shortfall; and more …

7. The Olympics can have a large portion of the opening ceremony mocking Christians and the degenerates of the world will rally to defend them, but if a sportscaster makes a silly comment, they will be run out of the event and fired from their job. Longtime swimming commentator Bob Ballard was removed from Eurosport’s 2024 Summer Olympics coverage following remarks about Australia’s women’s swim team where he said “Well, the women (are) just finishing up. You know what women are like … hanging around, you know, doing their makeup” and he was fired after an apology and removed from the games.

6. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the arrest of Terry Andrew Heflin, a Democrat running for District 5 of the Clay County Commission, on seven felony counts of voter fraud. Heflin allegedly falsified absentee ballot applications and used them to vote for himself with each felony carrying a potential 1 to 10 years in prison.

5. The Mobile County Public School System is implementing security measures, including weapons detectors at entrances, vape detectors in bathrooms, and confiscating cell phones during class hours in a hyper-aggressive strategy to manage their students. Students will turn in their phones at the start of the day to be locked in safes or Yondr pouches, Evolv Express systems will screen for weapons, Halo Smart Sensors will detect vape smoke and loud noises and clear backpacks will become mandatory soon in an aim to enhance safety and improve academic performance.

4. Alabama State Rep. Juandalynn Givan (D-Birmingham) defended Vice President Kamala Harris against attacks claiming she used relationships to advance her career, stating such criticisms are racially and politically motivated, despite the overwhelming evidence that her connections to Willie Brown, the most powerful politician in California led to her being appointed to multiple boards, that both paid her and helped her build her resume. Givan argued that if Harris were a white Republican, she wouldn’t face these accusations, drawing comparisons with U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), who hasn’t been subject to similar attacks, not because of racism but because Britt never did any of these things.

3. During an event with the National Association of Black Journalists, an event that Vice President Kamala Harris would not do, former President Donald Trump did not shy away from combative “journalists” who asked loaded questions and called Trump racist for being critical of black politicians and journalists, as if he isn’t critical of everyone. He also questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity, with good reason as Harris tries to be all things to all people, and highlights her inauthentic nature and his willingness to go places most people will not go.

2. The alleged smartest man in Alabama, David Bronner, CEO of Retirement Systems of Alabama, has once again advocated for a massive expansion of gambling in Alabama to provide much needed revenue, including revenue to make up for the budget shortfall of the system he, the smartest man to ever live, oversees. Even though Bronner is very smart, his fund is currently sitting at $15.4 billion in unfunded liabilities, while gambling is expected to bring in $749 million every year or 1/20th of his shortfall if all stays the same, while removing much more from the Alabama economy, which I am told is very smart.

1. Election prognosticator Nate Silver’s first election model since Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee shows her favored to win the popular vote but as a “modest underdog” to former President Donald Trump in the Electoral College. Silver states that Harris has better chances than Biden had, who had a 27% chance against Trump before withdrawing. Harris quickly consolidated Democratic support after Biden’s withdrawal and the model highlights a potential repeat of the popular vote-Electoral College split seen in 2000 and 2016.
