7 Things: Court clears Tuberville to be governor, Isaias kills 2 in Alabama, Trump’s Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire, and more…

7. Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said a late personal foul by cornerback Dijon Lee Jr., who shoved a receiver in the helmet after a 1-yard run, “ends Alabama’s hopes” and sealed Georgia’s 20-17 win, lamenting, “We preach emotional maturity,” and “you got to give yourself a chance,” meanwhile, Auburn fell 24-14 at Tennessee.

6. State Superintendent Eric Mackey said Alabama public schools lost a record nearly 12,000 students, dropping enrollment to about 702,000 and likely cutting funding for 750 to 800 teacher units next year, warning, “There’s no way that we don’t have a significant loss in students,” and “That is a big deal for us across the state,” while Governor-elect National Championship-winning Coach U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) doubled down on the CHOOSE Act, saying, “We need to give the kids back to the parents,” and that some “DEI-woke administrators” are “pushing DEI instead of merit.”

5. Alabama Republican Party Chairman Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle) told the Eastern Shore Republican Women that two transgender Democrat House candidates are “men who have mental disorders who like to dress like women,” prompting Terri Osborne to reply, “Being transgender is not a mental illness,” and Allison Montgomery to call it “plain prejudice,” while State Sen. Chris Elliott (R-Josephine) said the idea of them winning is “almost laughable” given “the absolute craziness from the Democrat socialists,” and both candidates pointed to the arrest of Republican Rep. Brett Easterbrook on human-trafficking charges.

4. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mocked U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) by handwriting “Happy Indigenous People’s Day in advance to you and your family” at the end of a response to one of her more than 100 letters, accusing her of continuing “your letter-writing crusade” after refusing his “suggestion of studying introductory economics,” and offering her “a Foreign Exchange for Dummies tutorial” if she passes “the Yale metric, not the Harvard curve.”

3. President Donald Trump announced an “ENERGY CEASEFIRE” between Russia and Ukraine, writing, “Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” after a diesel deal with Russia, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Putin’s answer to de-escalation has been “nyet,” and retired NATO commander Gen. Philip Breedlove warned the deal “will go into fueling Mr. Putin’s continued attacks,” adding, “Russia has never kept a promise to this president in this war.”

2. Hurricane Isaias killed at least two Alabamians, one from a tree falling on a home in east Birmingham and one in a Barbour County wreck, cut power to nearly 300,000 customers, and battered the Wiregrass after a late shift east spared the beaches a direct hit, while Gov. Kay Ivey said, “This storm cannot clear fast enough,” crews restored more than 80 percent of outages by Sunday, and Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon said, “We dodged a bullet, and we thank God for that.”

1. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled 7-0 for Governor-elect National Championship-winning Coach U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), ending the residency challenge 25 days before the election by holding that “a primary-election contest brought under the primary-election contest statutes is the exclusive method” to challenge a nominee before the general election and that “a party’s nominee for election to public office does not exercise any public office,” while Alabama State House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) said any later legislative challenge “will be handled according to the letter of the law with full transparency.”
