Business Insider recently named the most famous movie set in each state, and it probably comes as no surprise that “Forrest Gump” was the definitive choice for Alabama.
“In order to pick, we evaluated the state’s prominence in the movie and leaned toward movies that were filmed in that location, as well,” writes Business Insider’s Melia Robinson. “The film’s lifetime gross, its critical acclaim, and testimonials by our geographically diverse staff also influenced our decision.”
“Forrest Gump,” which was released in 1994 and stars Tom Hanks, was not actually filmed in Alabama. However, Forrest Gump, the titular character, was from the fictional town of Greenbow, Alabama, and played football for the Crimson Tide.
“Forrest Gump” won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing.
