Former Auburn University linebacker Tre’ Williams spoke to members of Mobile’s Cottage Hill Christian High School football team before their first playoff game last Friday.
“[T]his is a big moment. Y’all have never hosted a playoff game here, so congratulations,” Williams told the players. “You didn’t get this far, just to get this far. Don’t ever settle for whatever accomplishments you made because you can always do better.”
“Y’all have got an opportunity to make history tonight,” he added. “Why give this moment away?”

Speaking from his own career that has been on hold since going through neck fusion surgery in May, Williams made it clear that the players should give it their all in the game against Goshen because nobody knows when their career will be over.
“There should be no excuses. Y’all done worked way too hard to go out there and give up on the plays,” he said. “You never know when it’s gonna be your last play, your last game, your last snap. Trust me, I know.”
The former five-star recruit from Mobile then took off a ring of his and held it up for the players to see.
“This is what you want, but guess what? It starts tonight, on y’all’s home turf. So when you’re 55 years-old, y’all get to come to a group of kids like y’all and say, ‘This started with the team that made history,’” explained Williams.
Cottage Hill went on to defeat Goshen 26-0 to pick up the school’s first-ever AHSAA playoff win.
