The latest Jerry Carl endorsement comes from U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, who said Congress needs the former Alabama lawmaker back in Washington.
Burchett (R-Tenn.) endorsed Carl in the August 11 Republican special primary for Alabama’s 1st Congressional District in a video posted by Carl’s campaign.
“I’m proud to support my buddy Jerry Carl,” Burchett said. “I hope he gets back to Congress. We really need him.”
Burchett praised Carl’s approach during his previous two terms in the House, describing him as someone who speaks selectively but delivers a clear message.
“He’s not one of those guys who’s out there talking all the time, but when he does say something, it makes good sense,” Burchett said. “Like the President, I’m for Jerry Carl.”
Carl thanked Burchett for his support and said conservative members of Congress need experienced allies ready to advance President Donald Trump’s agenda.
Burchett represents Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District and chairs the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, commonly known as the DOGE Subcommittee.
Carl represented Alabama’s 1st Congressional District from 2021 through 2025 and served on the House Appropriations and Armed Services committees.
He left Congress after court-ordered redistricting placed him in the same district as U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), who defeated Carl in the 2024 Republican primary.
Carl launched his comeback campaign after Moore entered Alabama’s open U.S. Senate race. The U.S. Supreme Court’s redistricting decision later returned the 1st District to a South Alabama-based configuration.
The Burchett endorsement follows support for Carl from Trump, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, Manufacture Alabama, the Gulf United Metro Business Organization and other elected officials and conservative organizations.
The August 11 special Republican primary is a winner-take-all election with no runoff.
