U.S. Rep. Barry Moore calls to redirect U.N. funding to border wall — ‘It is time to close the border and protect our communities’

An effort is underway in Congress to redirect taxpayer funding from the United Nations (U.N.) and utilize the funds toward completing construction of the wall along the U.S. southern border.

The “Close Biden’s Open Border Act,” sponsored by U.S. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), would halt taxpayer funding from the intergovernmental organization for two years while border wall construction is completed.

According to bill cosponsor U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), the legislation was introduced after it was revealed that the U.N. had been assisting foreign nationals seek asylum in the United States.

The Center for Immigration Studies recently reported that at least two nonprofits funded by the U.N. were paying clinical psychologists to assist foreign nationals recover what the organization called “repressed memories” of government persecution the migrants had experienced in their home countries. Such accounts could lead to a migrant becoming qualified for asylum.

In a release detailing his support of the bill, Moore slammed President Joe Biden for his administration’s laxed border policies and asserted that the time had come to “close the border.”

“President Biden’s first mistake in office was halting the construction of the border wall – weakening a key tool used to combat illegal entry,” declared Moore. “Since then, our border has been overrun by illegal immigrants and the drug cartels, leaving our border patrol agents overwhelmed and understaffed. It is time to close the border and protect our communities. Thank you to my friend Bob Good for introducing this legislation that would ensure we finish the construction on the border wall while spending American taxpayer money more responsibly.”
