U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) has had enough of the crime problem in Alabama’s Capital city and wants to be the state’s next governor in order to clean it up.

The senator, who is currently the leading candidate in Alabama’s gubernatorial race, discussed the issue Wednesday on “The Rightside” with Allison Sinclair and Amie Beth Shaver, presented by Yellowhammer News.

“Yeah, we’re working on that as we speak,” Tuberville said. “It’s not just Montgomery. Now we’ve got other cities in the state that are just as dangerous. It’s just not as publicized. But I’m not going to allow once I’m Governor, if I’m lucky enough to be elected, I’m not going to allow the people of this state of Alabama to live in a war zone or live in unsafe neighborhoods, if we can help it.”

Tuberville’s comments come after a wave of shootings tore through Montgomery between Friday afternoon and early Sunday morning, leaving four dead and three clinging to life, Montgomery Police Chief Jim Graboys said at a Sunday press conference.

In all, officers responded to seven separate shooting incidents in roughly 48 hours.

“We’re going to give more people authority,” he said. “We’re going to go after these corrupt judges that when these people are arrested, they go through the front door and let them out the back door. That’s going to be over with. And you know, at the end of the day, we have got to do what’s right for the people the state of Alabama.”

The senator said enforcing law and order doesn’t just help keep Alabamians safe, but also will help the overall economy of the state.

“We are not going to let the animals run the zoo, and so that’s going to be one of my priorities, is starting out making Alabama safe on all areas,” he said. “We’ve got some great places to live. We’ve got some not as not as protected. But we’re going to have more law enforcement officers, we’re going to do everything we possibly can do to go after these bad judges, and we’re going to put people in jail, and we’re going to throw away the key, because we are not going to lose our state because we can’t grow, because we’re letting people do things that they’re not supposed to be doing.”
