Tuberville plays role in Biden administration reversal on extension of poultry line speed waiver

As Alabama’s voice on the Senate Agriculture Committee, Sen. Tommy Tuberville has been a consistent advocate for the state’s producers and farmers.

Recently, the senator pushed for the reversal of a rule that would have set a closer deadline for the poultry line speed waiver. The original deadline date would have been March 31 but it has since been extended to Nov. 15.

Tuberville (R-Auburn) said it’s significant because eight poultry plants in the state participate in the modified line speed waiver program. Participation in the program allows the plants to operate at up to 175 birds per minute, a good deal higher than the previous maximum line speed of 140 birds per minute.

“I was glad to see the USDA take my advice and extend the poultry line speed waiver deadline to November,” said Tuberville. “Our poultry producers and processors work hard to safely prepare and package food for not only the United States, but the world.

“We need to give them every possible tool to succeed.”
